Structure Fire in South Peacham
The department responded to the report of flames showing in South Peacham during the early morning of May 16th. Chief Jeff Berwick was first on scene and reported that a fire was well involved in an attached two story barn. He declared a "working fire" and requested assistance from neighboring departments. Engine 1 provided initial attack while Tanker 1 set up water supply. The barn was destroyed up to the ajoining wall of the house. There was some damage to the house also, but aggressive firefighting saved the house from greater damage. Assisting departments at the scene included: Danville, Barnet, Groton and Ryegate.

Peacham Fire Department finds a Rescue Truck!
Department members are pleased to announce that a new (used) Rescue truck will soon be serving the residents of Peacham and surrounding communities. A 1996 EVI Custom Rescue is in the process of being purchased from another fire department. If all goes as planned the truck is expected in town within a few weeks. The department intends to run the truck for a year or two and then will consider replacing the chassis with a new model. When we are finished this rescue should provide Peacham with a reliable and safe first response medical unit for years to come.

PFD places New Monitor in Service
The Department has recently purchased and placed into service an Akron model 911 "Ozzie" Oscillating Monitor. This is a portable oscillating monitor with a powerful sweeping water stream for high performance attack and protection. The water driven motor sweeps the nozzle back and forth in a smooth, wave-like motion to provide cooling and protection. The nozzle is fed with a 2 1/2" hose line that is preattached making it easier for a single firefighter to place a large hand line into service at a fire scene. The new nozzle is carried on the rear tailboard of Engine 1. Additional information on the monitor can be found in the manufacturer's brochure.

Working to Replace Rescue 1
Department members traveled to West Virginia in late April 2007 to look at a possible replacement vehicle for Rescue 1. While the vehicle was not the right vehicle for the department the members did come back from the trip with ideas that could be used on the next rescue vehicle. A search for such a vehicle is still underway.

The search for a new Rescue 1 continues...
The Truck committee met on December 17, 2007. In order to decrease the volume of space needed, only three backboards will be carried on the new rescue (same as now) instead of the planned six , also the Holmatro tools will continue to be carried on the engine, but there will be some extra cribbing put on the new rescue. We agreed that we needed some kind of "walk-in" capability for patient care and firefighter rehab. We are now at approximately 160 cu. ft. of equipment for the rescue. We have a proposal from Neel Fire Associates in Texas, which meets our requirements. We are expecting proposals from Freedom Tankers, and from K&T (Metalfab) as well as one from RVI. Next meeting January 21, 2008 1830 hours at the fire house.
